Fine Timbers
Red Cedar
Red Cedar is a magnificent, deep, rich red. Prized for the colour, this timber has many applications from decorative turning to cabinetry, furniture, boat building and more. The colour of the wood alone makes it a wood worker’s dream and it's softness and pest resistance makes Red Cedar a very desirable and sought after wood.
New Guinea Rosewood
New Guinea Rosewood is a highly sought after hardwood timber from South East Asia. Ideal for use in furniture, Rosewood timber features a medium texture and a variable grain. With a honey brown to deep blood red heartwood, the New Guinea Rosewood timber is a stunning timber which polishes well and is termite resistant.
Silver Quandong
Silver Quandong is a highly regarded Queensland timber that is very easy to work with and features a white to cream heartwood. It nails and glues well and is excellent for steam bending. Because of this, it has become one of the preferred timbers for instrument makers and it is especially popular for the making of solid body electric guitars. Other applications include decorative veneer, furniture making, joinery oars and boating.
Northern Silky Oak
Another striking Queensland hardwood, the Northern Silky Oak is known for it's beautiful light to medium reddish-brown heartwood and grey to light brown rays. This wood glues and finishes well and is popular in fine furniture, cabinetry, musical instruments, wood turning and sculpture.
Southern Silky Oak
With its highly figured and distinctive grain, the Southern Silky Oak is a popular choice for furniture making, particularly cabinets and dressers. Like the Northern Silky, the Southern Silky Oak has a stunning finish but is significantly lighter in colour.
Rose Mahogany
A prestigious Australian Hardwood, Rose Mahogany is highly sought after for many decorative applications. With it's fine grain and figuring, it is prized for furniture making and turning. Depending on the age of the timber, the heartwood can be a light to deep, rich red. Along with its distinct and consistent colouring, Rose Mahogany is also known for its versatility, durability and hardness and is ideal for flooring, tables, dressed timber and engineering applications.
White Beech
White Beech is considered to be the premier carving timber in Queensland. It is a firm, straight grained wood with heartwood ranging from pale straw to light grey/brown. It machines, glues and finishes well. It is versatile and has many applications including furniture making, joinery, turning, carving, framing and boat building.
Bunya Pine
Bunya pine is a highly valued timber especially for musical instruments. Particularly sought after as a tonewood, it is easy to work with and glues well. Our valley in Mooloo is lined with these magnificent trees and we feel strongly about the Indigenous significance of the Bunya. The Bunya wood we sell is from very old collections and naturally fallen logs only, we do not fell them.
